Julie Harper sentencing continued to January 8

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Sentencing for a Carlsbad woman convicted of shooting and killing her husband has been scheduled for January 8th. 

Julie Harper, 42, appeared at the Vista Courthouse Thursday morning, accompanied by her attorney Paul Pfingst. The continuance will give her counsel time to file motions for an appeal.

Julie Harper had initially been acquitted of first-degree murder last year in the Aug. 7, 2012 shooting of 39-year-old Jason Harper. Jurors deadlocked on second-degree murder charges and the case went to trial again last month. During last months trial, a jury found Julie Harper guilty of second-degree murder in the killing of her husband, and guilty of intentional discharge of a firearm.

Harper faces 40 years to life in state prison.
