SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A brother tried to shield his sister from gunfire, as both were gunned down in their Mountain View driveway over the weekend.

Police said they are searching for the suspect Felipe De Jesus Vega-Meza of San Diego, who is considered armed and dangerous. They searched his apartment Monday morning.

Vega is suspected of fatally shooting the brother and sister, who were both in their 20s, following an argument on Newton Avenue near 43rd Street shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday, San Diego police Lt. Paul Rorrison said. It was not immediately clear what the argument was about and Vega fled before officers arrived.

The two victims were shot multiple times in their upper bodies in a parking lot in the 4300 block of Newton Avenue. Police reported that the brother tried to shield his sister with his body.

Detectives said Vega-Meza knew the victims.

"Officers went into an apartment and cleared a residence that appears to be the residence of the victims. It has been secured." Lt. Rorrison.

Detectives found the suspect's car, but the search for the suspect continues as of this report.

The victims' names were withheld pending family notification.

Anyone with information on the shootings or the suspects’ whereabouts was asked to call police at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
