Nevaeh and Hunter waiting to find a forever family

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A little girl who celebrates her sixth birthday in just one day and has a special request at the top of her wish list. Nevaeh is hoping to find a forever family to care for her and her little brother.

Nevaeh and her three-year-old brother Hunter are just beginning to learn their ABC's.

Having lived a nomadic lifestyle, until just a few months ago they are now being exposed to the building blocks of education, since entering the foster care system.

“Nevaeh's just blossomed a lot in the last eight months. She came in, kind of mute. She wasn't talking very much,” explained protective services worker Jessica Carter.

For the first time in their young lives, both Nevaeh and Hunter are receiving the type of care all children deserve - basics like food, shelter and for the time being love from a foster family.

“They definitely got a fresh start eight months ago, when they came into the care of the county,” said Carter.

And what these biological siblings need to continue to thrive is the unconditional love, only a forever family can give.

“They're in the system through no fault of their own. Unfortunately, they don't have family around so we're looking for a home that has patience and time,” added Carter.

Nevaeh, whose name is "heaven," spelled backward is a curious little girl.

“She has a lot of questions and she wants to know why to everything you say,” Carter noted.

She is quickly soaking up all of the new things she's been exposed to since entering foster care.

“She's just extremely loving. She'll crawl on your lap, play with your hair, and just want to cuddle,” said Carter. “And Hunter just follows her around and just does what she does. She's really protective over him.”

Hunter looks up to his big sister and doesn't venture far from her side.

“He's a little bit more reserved. When Neveah opens up, he begins to open up,” Carter added.

We don't know a lot about their beginnings, but with the right balance of stability, structure and support Nevaeh and Hunter will enjoy a future with endless possibilities.

“The sky's the limit with their prognosis from here on out, as long as they have love and affection and they find their forever family,” explained Carter.
