CHULA VISTA (CBS 8) - One of CBS News 8's Adopt 8 Families has made a plea asking for the public’s help after their dog was stolen from their backyard in Chula Vista.

Two year old Inara the golden retriever was donated to the Meyer family by a breeder in Lakeside to be used as a therapy dog. Rick Meyer adopted both of his specials needs sons, Mathew and Brody, through San Diego County.

He says his boys were devastated when Inara was taken from their fenced backyard last Monday around noon. Meyer says the thief unlatched his gate from the outside and stole their pet.

The family has posted fliers around their home on Date Street and there is a $500 reward for Inara's safe return.

If you think you have seen Inara, please call 619-922-0419. The dog is micro-chipped and can be turned in to the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility, no questions asked.
