Police pursuit in El Cajon leads to crash and chase

AN DIEGO (CNS) - A motorist who refused to yield to the California Highway Patrol on Interstate 8 in the Pine Valley area late Wednesday afternoon led a reckless 15-minute pursuit before crashing her Ford Mustang into several other vehicles and making a failed attempt to escape on foot.

The woman began fleeing when a CHP officer tried to pull her over for speeding shortly before 5 p.m., agency spokesman Robert Catano said.

Two additional CHP units joined in the chase as the motorist continued to the west at speeds up to about 120 mph, weaving in and out of lanes dangerously, Catano said.

The driver exited the freeway in eastern El Cajon. On nearby North Second Street, she got into several collisions in quick succession, then jumped out of her damaged car and bolted. Officers ran her down, fired an electric stun gun at her and took her into custody moments later.

An ambulance crew was called in to evaluate the arrested driver, whose name was not immediately available. It was unclear if she or any other involved motorists would require medical treatment, Catano said.
