Driver killed in rollover crash near Camp Pendleton

Posted: Updated:

CAMP PENDLETON (CNS) - A 25-year-old Ventura man was killed in a rollover crash along Interstate 5 Monday morning near Camp Pendleton.

The victim's 2008 Ford box truck veered to the side of southbound lanes, struck a concrete wall, then crashed into a guard rail and a bridge support near Las Pulgas Road shortly after 5 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Bettencourt. It was not immediately clear whether gusty winds in the area contributed to the crash.

The driver died at the scene and his name has yet to be made public.

Bettencourt said neither alcohol or drugs were believed to have been factors in the crash.

The wreck prompted authorities to close two southbound lanes in the area and issue a SigAlert, but the roadway was reopened shortly before 8:30 a.m.
