Standing with Paris - Vigil held in Balboa Park

The San Diego City Council began its meeting Monday with a moment of silence to honor victims of last week's attacks in France.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A crowd in San Diego, including people from France, joined together to honor the victims of the Paris terror attacks.

More than 200 people gathered at the House of France in Balboa Park Monday night to hold a vigil and pray for Paris. They paid tribute to the victims.

The San Diego City Council began its meeting Monday with a moment of silence to honor victims of last week's attacks in France.

Council President Sherri Lightner called for the tribute, citing the loss of life Friday at a concert venue, national stadium and restaurants in Paris.

She did not elaborate and no other council members commented.

Other small tributes have taken place around San Diego. The US Grant Hotel lit its exterior in the colors of the French flag and a small memorial of candles, cards and flowers was set up at the entrance of the House of France in Balboa Park.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the bloodshed that killed 129 people -- including a Cal State Long Beach student -- and wounded hundreds more on Friday night in Paris. Seven attackers also died, according to French authorities.

San Diego State University and UC San Diego reported over the weekend that their exchange students in France had all been accounted for.

A makeshift memorial remains at the International Cottages Tuesday morning. A vigil was initially planned for Friday, one week after the attacks. No word if that will still take place.
