Military veteran and his family move into new home

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A military veteran and his wife moved into their first home in Escondido Wednesday thanks to their own hard work and Habitat for Humanity.

Al Lejarde and his wife Kristin put in 500 "sweat equity" hours on their home and other Habitat for Humanity projects before they received the keys Wednesday.

The Lejardes are expecting their first child next spring, and Al said this is the perfect place to bring him home to.

“To have an actual home where we have room to grow, that we can have more children, my mother-in-law will have enough room. It's a security and hope that we can move forward to the future,” said Lejarde.

Volunteers from SDG&E worked on the home and the company donated $250,000 to help with the building costs.
