SAN MARCOS (CBS 8) - Detectives are investigating the death of a male victim, who was found lying on the sidewalk fatally shot in San Marcos Friday night.

It happened around 10:50 p.m. in the 3500 block of De Leone Road in the city of San Marcos.

Sheriff's deputies received several reports of multiple gun fire being heard near the intersection of De Leone Road and Hollencrest Road.

Witnesses said the victim stumbled down the road and collapsed on the sidewalk just blocks from his home. One neighbor, Diane, said she immediately called 911.

"The helicopter was going around looking for someone," she said.

Crews performed CPR on the victim and he was taken to a local hospital, but the victim did not survive his wounds and later died at the hospital, according to SDSO.

Neighbors say the victim was a teenager.

"It's very unfortunate. I can't believe it happened right in front of my house."

Once the shock of what had happened began to wear off, Diane noticed a strange black mark on her kitchen wall.

"You could see all the way through it and I thought, oh my God, it was a bullet. What if it had come through the house?" she said.

Detectives collected the bullet from her home and spent hours combing through the neighborhood for evidence Saturday trying to find out who killed this young victim and why.

The victim's death is being investigated as a homicide. Deputies said the shooting may be gang-related, but is ongoing. No further details were released, including any information on possible suspects.
