Chargers retire LaDainian Tomlinson’s Number 21 today

Running back LaDainian Tomlinson will be inducted Sunday as the 37th member of the Chargers Hall of Fame, and the fourth ex-player to have his number retired.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Running back LaDainian Tomlinson was inducted during Sunday's game as the 37th member of the Chargers Hall of Fame, and the fourth ex-player to have his number retired.

Ceremonies took place Sunday afternoon at Qualcomm Stadium.

After being drafted out of TCU in 2001, Tomlinson ran for 12,490 yards in nine seasons in San Diego, scoring 138 touchdowns on the ground and 15 more
on pass receptions.

His best statistical year was 2006, when he rushed for 1,185 yards and 28 touchdowns, and caught 56 passes for three more scores. That was the year the Chargers went 14-2 in the regular season but lost their first playoff contest to the New England Patriots.

Tomlinson, who lives in Texas, said at a news conference today that having his number retired is a tremendous accomplishment.

"This says I made a big impact on this organization," Tomlinson said. "I'm proud of that."

The other ex-Chargers whose numbers have been retired are receiver Lance Alworth, 19; quarterback Dan Fouts, 14; and linebacker Junior Seau, 55.
