Ramona horse ranch ordered to stop killing pigs

San Diego County has ordered a Ramona horse ranch to stop killing pigs on its property as part of medic training.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - San Diego County has ordered a Ramona horse ranch to stop killing pigs on its property as part of medic training.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals filed a complaint this month, alleging pigs were being killed as part of live tissue medic training at Creek Hollow Ranch.

The county followed up with a written order, saying the ranch could not perform the training without a permit. A paramilitary training company, Simmec Training Solutions, had been renting the ranch to conduct the pig training, according to the records.

During live tissue training, animals are first anesthetized, then shot, wounded and eventually killed so that field medics can learn how to treat injuries.
