Black Lives Matter protest Black Friday downtown San Diego

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - More than 100 people took part in a "Black Lives Matter" protest in downtown San Diego Friday.

The protesters held a rally outside the hall of justice then marched near Horton Plaza.

They then laid down in the middle of the intersection at F and Market streets where a man was fatally shot by police officers last month.

Organizers say they marched to highlight excessive force used in officer-involved shootings throughout the country.

"We have seen time and time again how police misuse their authority that's given to them and how they choose to enforce it," said a demonstrator.

The protesters were escorted by motorcycle officers who blocked traffic while the procession made its way up Fourth Avenue.
