Sketch released of alleged child annoyer

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities asked the public Tuesday for help in identifying a retirement-age man who repeatedly followed a teenage girl through Alpine in recent weeks and tried to persuade her to get into his car.

The motorist trailed behind the 16-year-old in a tan older-model Toyota Camry or similar vehicle on Nov. 4 and again two weeks later, according to sheriff's investigators. He spoke to her on the first occasion, asking if she "needed a ride," then circled the same block several times after she ran off.

The second time the teen encountered the stranger, he followed her to her bus stop, officials said.

The victim, who did not manage to take down the license number of the vehicle, described the driver as a bald, heavyset black man who appeared to be in his mid-60s to early 70s. He had a mustache and was wearing wire-rimmed glasses, the teenager told detectives.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or contact the agency online at sdcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
