Family of victims and accused killer speak

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A local man is facing murder charges, after his grandmother and uncle were found stabbed to death in Otay Mesa on Monday.

The victims were identified as Donna Chatterfield, 78, and 54-year-old Kenneth Chatterfield.

The victims had both sustained multiple stab wounds and were found on the floor. Rorrison said paramedics attempted to revive them, but they died at the scene.

Family members told CBS News 8 that Donna Chatterfield had unconditional love for her grandson, despite his problems and a restraining order.

"She was so wonderful to the person that did this to her, but now she is gone," said Lisa Marsden, Donna's daughter.

Chatterfield's cousin, Corey Thomas said, "I was just like - no this can't be - my cousin doing something to a woman who loved everybody."

On Monday, CBS News 8 took exclusive video of Raymond Joseph Chatterfield, originally taken in for questioning in the double fatal stabbing in Otay Mesa in the Rancho Chula Vista mobile home park near the 1000 block of Beyer Way.

It was not immediately clear what led police to Raymond Chatterfield and a suspected motive, if known, has yet to be made public. But the suspect had a prior allegation of elder abuse involving the female victim, according to online records.

Donna still worked at American Greetings, loved Frank Sinatra, and went to game night with girlfriends every Monday night.

"Even though we loved him, and we did, we gave up on him. We did and I know you are not suppose to give up," said Linda.

Linda said her mother had unconditional love for her grandson, whom she had raised since he was born.

"She never stopped loving him, but obviously he did," said Linda.

Raymond Chatterfield is being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday.
