SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Two people were displaced, after a fire tore through the inside of a bungalow-type residence in the Hillcrest area early Wednesday morning.

The blaze on University Avenue near Park Boulevard was reported around 2:45 a.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. The fire was reported knocked down around 3 a.m.

When crews arrived on the scene, the bungalow was engulfed in flames, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Twenty-two firefighters battled the fire that was contained in about 12 minutes, officials said.

Firefighters said a lot of the heavy fire damage was in the front room, but the whole home suffered lots of smoke damage.

Fortunately, the fire was contained to the one home because it's in close proximity to other homes in the area.

One neighbor says firefighters warned the residents in the area to be prepared to evacuate their homes.

"It looks like a war zone, everything burned up. Nothing like this ever happened and I've been here almost 40 years," said Henry Allen.

According to the property manager, two men who lived in the home had just moved into the house a couple of months ago, but were not home when the fire broke out.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

According to fire officials, the fire was ruled an accident. They said it was caused by a wall heater.

The damages were estimated to be $350,000.
