CARLSBAD (CBS 8) - Downtown Carlsbad is turning into a Winter Wonderland this holiday season by hosting the Carlsbad Village Window Decorating Contest.
The contest helps to create a festive and beautiful downtown, attract visitors to the Village and showcase local businesses.
Dozens of businesses have signed up to decorate their window displays. Three prizes will be awarded to the winners of three different categories. The "People's Choice" award will be voted on by the public. The second award called "Village Vision" will be voted on by Carlsbad City Council members. The third award called "Kid's Favorite" will be voted on by a group of middle school students from the Carlsbad Boys & Girls Torch Club. Online voting for the "People's Choice" award will open on Friday, November 27 and will run through December 17. During this same time frame, City Council members and the kids from the Torch Club will be visiting the stores that have entered the contest to pick their favorite.
On December 18th, there will be a village celebration, complete with live music, carolers and hospitality where the contest winners will be announced. The celebration ceremony will begin at 4:00 p.m. at Choice Juicery, 430 Carlsbad Village Drive (corner of Carlsbad Village Drive and State Street).Carlsbad-based Pacific Motion Dance Company will perform a couple holiday-themed numbers and a local middle-school choir will sing Christmas carols.
On that same evening, from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. musicians will be playing live "busker style" holiday-themed music on the corners of Carlsbad Village Drive and State Street, as well as the corner of State Street and Grand Avenue for those staying in the village for dinner or last minute shopping.
