Police looking for suspect who broke into local elementary school

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Nearly two dozen iPads were stolen Wednesday from Kit Carson Elementary School in the Linda Vista neighborhood during a pre-dawn break-in.

The break-in at the campus on the corner of Kramer and Coolidge streets was reported around 3:30 a.m., San Diego police Officer Travis Easter said. Responding officers found a door that had been pried open, and a crowbar and a laptop computer on the ground nearby.

Easter said at least 21 iPads had been taken, but officers were still investigating so the count may be higher.

No arrests had been made as of mid-morning, but images of the suspect may have been captured on surveillance video, police said.

The suspect is described as Hispanic, wearing dark clothing.

School is expected to open on time at 7:00 a.m.
