CARLSBAD (CNS) - A 37-year-old man could face several criminal charges in connection with robbing a jewelry store of $20,000 worth of diamonds on Friday, a Carlsbad police officer said.
Clyde Lydelle Anderson, of Orange County, was booked into the Vista jail on one count each of robbery, commercial burglary and grand theft from a person, Lt. Chris Boyd added.
Although detectives recovered a diamond rack, as of Saturday, the diamonds are still missing, police said.
At 1:03 p.m. Friday, Carlsbad officers responded to a report of a robbery at Henderson*s Jewelry, located at 300 Carlsbad Village Drive.
The victim told officers that a man robbed him of approximately $20,000 worth of diamond jewelry, said Boyd, who added no weapon was used during the robbery.
Boyd said the suspect dropped his cell phone and ran from the store with the stolen diamonds.
After police identified the cell phone number, the victim identified Anderson in a photo line-up, Boyd said.
Detectives went to an apartment complex located in Rancho Santa Margarita in Orange County at 11:30 p.m. They found Anderson hiding under a bed and arrested him without incident, said Boyd, and police found clothing stashed nearby that Anderson reportedly had worn during the robbery.
