Never before seen fireworks at Poinsettia Bowl

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Boise State's football team didn't wait for the post-game "Stadium Spectacular" to provide fireworks at Wednesday's 11th annual
Poinsettia Bowl, scoring 58 seconds into the first quarter and routing Northern Illinois, 55-7, at Qualcomm Stadium.

Jeremy McNichols scored three touchdowns, ran 19 times for 93 yards and caught five passes for 96 additional yards. Brett Rypien passed for 377 yards
and three touchdowns as the Broncos outgained the Huskies, 654 yards to 33.

An announced crowd of 21,501 attended the first afternoon kickoff for the bowl, a change made to accommodate a postgame fireworks extravaganza dubbed
"Stadium Spectacular."

The show was produced by Rialto-based Pyro Spectaculars by Souza, which has produced fireworks shows throughout the world, including at for the 1984,
and 1996 Summer Olympics and 2002 Winter Olympics; several Super Bowls; the 100th and 125th anniversaries of the Statue of Liberty; Ronald Reagan's 1981
presidential inauguration; Jerusalem's 3,000th anniversary celebration; and the 50th anniversary of the liberation of South Korea.

The fireworks show was the result of brainstorming with the game's staff, said Mark Neville, executive director of San Diego Bowl Game Association, which operates the Poinsettia Bowl and the other bowl game played at Qualcomm Stadium, the Holiday Bowl.

"We noticed that there are events, like a Padres game, that attract a lot more people when there's a postgame fireworks show," Neville said.
