Father Joe's preparing for Christmas Eve meals

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - More than 2,000 people will receive Christmas Eve meals Thursday at Father Joe's Villages.

A lunch will begin at 11 a.m. for around 1,500 homeless people during Father Joe's public meal service at its facility at 1501 Imperial Ave. About 75 volunteers are scheduled to help.

Dinner will later be served to 700 village residents by around 90 volunteers.

Holiday lunches will also be available for homeless and low-income San Diegans on Christmas Day.

The Salvation Army will serve its 32nd annual Christmas meal at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Golden Hall in downtown San Diego. Around 1,800 guests are expected, with 350 volunteers on hand to serve them, according to the Salvation Army.

Serving Seniors, a nonprofit that provides services for low-income older people, will provide Christmas food for about 300 seniors beginning at 11 a.m. at 1525 Fourth Ave.
