SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A water main break in the Mission Hills neighborhood Monday morning flooded a nearby church and left a half-dozen area utility customers without running water.

A 12-inch diameter cement water pipe ruptured near the intersection of Fort Stockton Drive and Lark Street shortly after 5 a.m., according to Arian Collins, spokesman for the city public utilities department.

Water poured down a set of stairs outside the Mission Hills United Methodist Church on Lark Street before utility crews had the water shut off around 6:20 a.m.

Collins said six utility customers in the 1400 block of Fort Stockton Drive were left without water service. He estimated repairs would be completed and service restored by about 6 p.m.
