Local students take kindness project to heart

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Children may be small, but there is no limit to the size of their hearts.

Just when you might start to worry about the future of our country, it's the future itself that brings tears of joy to a teacher's eye.

In January, second grade teacher Mrs. Kristin Convento told her students to dream up a kindness project.

While most kids whine when they get work, Mrs. Convento's students turned their homework into a harvest of the heart.

Kalina donated to the Polinsky Children's Center. Derek bagged produce for the San Diego Food Bank and then raised money by doing chores.

Together, in three months the class raised $3,000.

This year was the first time Mrs. Convento assigned a kindness project. She said she will make it a tradition until she retires from teaching.
