SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The Challenged Athletes Foundation accepted a $250,000 check Thursday from the Junior Seau Foundation.

The money will be used to launch a life-changing adaptive surfing program for kids. It will also provide access to surfing for kids with physical challenges.

"The ocean is so powerful. People might think that their disability has power over them until they get out in the ocean until they experience of catching a wave and ya know, surfing it.  It changes your perspective on life. It helps people understand they can do more in their every day life outside of being a person with a disability," said three-time paralympic gold medalist, Alana Nichols

The first ever International Surfing Association Adaptive Surfing World Championship was held in La Jolla last year.
