Deadly motel shooting in Palm City

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8/CNS) - A man was shot and killed early Tuesday at a motel in the Palm City neighborhood.

Officers were sent to the E-Z 8 Motel on Outer Road near Hollister Street around 1:20 a.m., according to San Diego police.

Police are looking over surveillance video which may have captured images of the murder in Palm City. A man was shot on the second floor of the motel.

Police say a 27-year-old black male was rushed to the hospital, after they tried life-saving measures.  A friend called 911.

Homicide detectives say the man suffered one gunshot wound to his chest area and was found on the second floor of the E-Z 8 motel near room 212.

A homicide lieutenant says they're looking over surveillance video that's now a major lead in their investigation. It may provide details as they try to solve the murder.

"What we have so far, we have an unknown male wearing a black hoodie and gray sweatpants running from the scene. We don't know if he's involved in the incident, but would like to get that individual identified," said Lt. Ray Valentin, SDPD Homicide Detective.

Police are searching for that possible suspect, last seen running southbound at the 1000 block of Outer Road. Police will also be looking at a red Kia Optima that was left in the parking lot and may belong to the suspect, police said.

There are many motel guests, but officers say no witnesses have come forward so far.
