SOLEDAD, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a 2-year-old boy has been found safe after thieves stole his father's running car from a driveway in Monterey County.

The California Highway Patrol has cancelled the Amber Alert for Jason Vargas. Where he was found was not immediately known. It was also not immediately known if he was injured.

California Highway Patrol officials say the boy's father left his black Honda Accord running when he went back inside his home shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday. When he came back, his car and his son were gone.

The boy has asthma and is required to take medication Thursday afternoon.
