Reuniting with the people who saved his life

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A happy reunion between a heart attack victim and two people who saved him.

Joe Himmelberg had just finished Chelsea's Run in Balboa Park last year when he collapsed. Officer Tyler Dogherty and medic Michele Henderson jumped into action and saved his life.

"It's kind of like when you stand up too quick and you're like I'm going to pass out. I was in the street and I was trying to get to the grass because I knew I was going to fall and I think my head made it to the grass," said Himmelberg.

Himmelberg was shocked twice before coming back to life.

After more than a year, the three were finally reunited on Friday and over a meal the three recalled the fateful day.

"It makes it more real and more personable when someone says you saved a life it's nice to see they're doing well and living healthy," said Dogherty.

Himmelberg spent more than a week in the hospital followed by many months of recovery. He is now living an active and healthy life.

He plans to run this year's Chelsea's Run. "I'm running again, I get to surf and I'm back in the water," he said.

As for Henderson and Dogherty were honored by the city last month with a lifesaving award.

"It's more important to have the impact to see Joe is walking and doing well. that's more important than any certificate I could have gotten," said Dogherty.
