Fundraiser held for family of drowned 8-year-old boy

An 8-year-old boy drowned in a community pool in Mission Valley Saturday night and the San Diego Police Child Abuse Unit is investigating, according to authorities.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An 8-year-old boy drowned in a community pool in Mission Valley Saturday night and the San Diego Police Child Abuse Unit is investigating, according to authorities.

Paramedics and police responded to a 911 call at the Del Rio apartment complex at 2228 Fenton Pkwy. near Rio San Diego Drive shortly before 8 p.m., according to San Diego Police Sgt. Tom Sullivan.

Eight-year-old  Brandon Reynoso was found face down in the pool, and an off-duty lifeguard was performing CPR when officers arrived. The officers continued CPR efforts until paramedics arrived and transported the boy to Rady Children's Hospital.

He was pronounced dead at 10:30 p.m. at the hospital. 

Brandon's 73-year-old grandfather lost consciousness during the commotion and also had to be transported to a hospital. 

According to police, Brandon was swimming in the pool wearing a mask and snorkel, while numerous people were having a party in the area.
