Homeless camp catches fire for second time

A raging fire causes big problems along a busy freeway and for homeowners.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A raging fire causes big problems along a busy freeway and for homeowners.

The fire erupted around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday morning near the I-15 and Market Street in the Stockton area.

Crews had a tough time getting to the fire because of the terrain.

California Highway Patrol had to shut down some lanes on the I-15 so they could attack it from the freeway.

San Diego Fire says the blaze was in the same area where a fire broke out Monday night, next to a homeless encampment.

"More than likely it's a homeless encampment. We encounter homeless encampments in our canyons all the time and it's just the kind of problem that we see, assuming that's what we have," Batt. Chief, SD Rescue-Fire Steve Salaz said.

The Battalion Chief says his crews are putting out fires set by the homeless on an almost daily basis.

Crews managed to keep the flames from nearby homes.
