SAN DIEGO (CBS8) – A new and dangerous trend has emerged in Southern California that has skateboarders doing tricks on freeways during traffic, catching the attention of the California Highway Patrol.
A video recently posted to Instagram shows a young man skateboarding on southbound Interstate 5 in Carlsbad.
Other videos showing skateboarders perform tricks on Southern Californian freeways have also been uploaded to Instagram using the hashtag #freewaychallenge, including one from professional skateboarder Nakel Smith. Smith uploaded a video to his Instagram account six days ago showing him perform a 360 flip on a Los Angeles freeway before returning to his car.
The California Highway Patrol says they are aware of the new trend and they will take action against individuals identified skateboarding on freeways.
