Stunned owner gets lost diamond back from Good Samaritan

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A wedding ring set found at a local beach this past weekend is on its way back to its rightful owner.

Christina Aguilar said her son found the rings at Windansea Beach, and she went to great lengths to return it.

Aguilar said she never gave up hope on locating the owner of the two-piece wedding ring set that her 12-year-old son found at a La Jolla beach on Saturday afternoon.

"He picked them up and I saw it and thought, wow, somebody is really missing this," she said.

Tim Dooley, from Poway Fine Jewelers, was able to take the ring apart and locate a serial number on the center diamond. Those numbers led Dooley to the original jeweler in San Francisco, who in turn contacted the owner, Alice Ger of Anaheim.

Via Skype, Alice told CBS News 8 she and her husband had been in San Diego celebrating their second anniversary when the rings went missing.

Alice said she had taken them off and placed them on her lap to put on lotion, but when she got out of the car, she forgot about the rings.

"I can't believe she went to all that work to find me," said Alice.

Christina said she would not have had it any other way.

Because Tim Dooley had to take the ring apart, he will do some maintenance work before he ships the set back to Alice.
