CARLSBAD (CBS 8/CNS) - A driver and a passenger were severely injured early Thursday in a suspected drunken driving crash in Carlsbad.
The car veered off a curve in eastbound Carlsbad Village Drive approaching El Camino Real and slammed into a tree on the roadside around 2:45 a.m., according to a statement from the Carlsbad Police Department.
The passenger was able to crawl out of the wreckage, but the fire department extricated the driver. Both were subsequently taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla to be treated, police said.
Police said that although the cause of the crash remained under investigation, it appeared that alcohol may have been a factor.
