CAMP PENDLETON (CNS) - Military and civilian firefighters, sheriff's deputies and helicopter crews practiced responding to wildfires Thursday at Camp Pendleton.

A wildland firefighting exercise got underway at Camp Pendleton  at 1 pm and lasted until about 2:30 pm.

Participating agencies included aviation and ground units from Camp Pendleton, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Navy Region Southwest and Third Fleet, Cal Fire and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

"This exercise will provide ready, trained and certified military and civilian resources to combat wildland fires in the region and culminates with a cooperative effort to extinguish a simulated wildland fire,'' said a Camp Pendleton statement.

Base officials said fire crews worked together to establish a simulated fire line and conduct water bucket operations.
