Security cam catches thief and her license plate

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A North County man is trying to track down a package that was stolen during broad daylight.

The man's home security system captured footage earlier this week as the thief pulled into the driveway, clearly showing her license plate, snatching the package and taking off.

Swetal Patel said he was able to get a clear evidence when he spotted the suspect's license plate.

"It's surprising, but thankfully she was as bold and as ignorant as she was, and I was able to get a pretty clear shot of her and her getaway vehicle," said Swetal Patel.

CBS News 8 tracked down the license plate and the driver of the suspected getaway car, but the car was not at the corresponding address.

Patel said he installed multiple surveillance cameras at his home. When the tennis-shoes he ordered online never arrived, he checked the footage and was shocked to see just what had happened.

"First of all it's brazen, it's really ridiculous, and second of all I'm really lucky that it was only shoes," said Patel.

Patel spotted the female suspect clearly walking up to his doorstep, wearing no disguise and talking on her cellphone as she picks up the box.

"I checked the other camera and sure enough, she not only drove by the house, but she decided to park in the driveway with a clear shot of the license plate," said Patel.

That plate number is: 4ELG219 on a white 1997 Ford truck. Patel gave the video to San Diego Police who are now investigating.

As for the stolen shoes, the company replaced them with a new pair.
