Lifeguards rescue man being swept out to sea

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A man was plucked from the sea after becoming stranded more than 50 yards from shore.

Lifeguards received a call at about 8:30 Saturday morning from the foot of Bermuda Street in the Sunset Cliffs area.

Someone on shore had spotted the man who was fully clothed and was slowly being swept out to sea.

A rescue boat found him, barely conscious.

"He couldn't answer a lot of questions as far as his orientation, so we hauled him here to the Boat and Safety Unite Headquarters as quickly as possible," said Rich Stropky, SD Lifeguards.

Lifeguards say the man was swimming in an unguarded area and he was lucky someone spotted him and called in the emergency.
