SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - San Diego police searched Tuesday for a man who robbed a popular La Jolla restaurant at gunpoint.

The gun-wielding robber was seen casing area businesses just before bursting through the back door of the Chedi Thai Bistro on Pearl Street near Eads Avenue around 9 p.m. Monday, San Diego police Sgt. David Jennings said.

New surveillance video, obtained from Dick's Liquor, has been released and shows a man wearing brown shorts and white shoes walking along the 700 block of Pearl Street just before 9:00 p.m. Monday. Detectives, who are now reviewing the video, said the suspect walked through the back alley and into the restaurant, threatened employees with a handgun and stole an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police described the suspect as black, in his 20s, about 5 feet 8 and 160 pounds. He had shortly curly hair, and was wearing a gray long-sleeved shirt, brown shorts and white shoes.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the San Diego Police Department or CrimeStoppers.
