Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The San Diego Food Bank is asking residents to empty out their pantries to help local families.

It's all part of the 24th Annual National Association of Letter Carriers "Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive," that takes place on Saturday.

It's the largest one-day food drive in the nation.

More than 500,000 paper grocery bags and instructions will be arriving in San Diego County homes this week.

Last year, more than 110,000 pounds of food was donated during the event.
