CULVER CITY, Calif. (AP) - Police in a Los Angeles suburb say they shot and killed a 30-year-old man who charged at them with a knife after stabbing his sister. KABC-TV reports that the man was shot about 2 p.m. Saturday in a Culver City neighborhood.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - California lawmakers are abandoning a proposal by Gov. Jerry Brown to shield electrical utilities from some financial liability for wildfires. Napa Democratic Sen. Bill Dodd tells the San Francisco Chronicle on Saturday that there wasn't enough time before the legislative session ends Aug. 31 to study and pass the issue. Brown's proposal drew criticism that it would give utility companies too much protection.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The wife of Olympic skier Bode Miller has shared a heart-wrenching photo of the couple's dying daughter in hopes that they can prevent other parents from experiencing a similar tragedy. Morgan Miller shared a photo on Instagram on Friday showing herself weeping as she holds 19-month-old Emmy as the little girl lay hooked up to wires and tubes. She writes in the post that she'll continue to work to spread awareness about childhood drownings.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says that the California man who was arrested by its agents as he drove his wife to the hospital to give birth had a warrant for his arrest in Mexico on homicide charges. Arrona remains in custody pending removal proceedings.
