COMPTON, Calif. (AP) — Investigators say a 9-year-old girl in Compton lost her left hand and fingers on her right hand in an explosion that was likely caused by the use of illegal fireworks.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says the girl also sustained blast injuries to her face following the explosion at a city park Saturday afternoon.
Authorities say she was taken to a hospital where her left hand was amputated.
She is listed in stable condition.
The incident is under investigation.
