SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - As Opening Day approaches, many women are still in need of finding the perfect hat and hairstyle to wear for this annual event. If you are one who needs some help, don't panic! Deena Von Yokes, owner of Studio Savvy Salon is here to give you some tips.
The hairstyle that is a must for this year is the "Done-Undone" look which features messy, textures braids or bun. This is a simple hairstyle that will not compete with your statement hat.
During Opening Day, there will be the annual hat contest located at Plaza de Mexico. You are able to enter the contest under one of the five categories - Most Glamorous, Best Racing Theme, Most Outrageous, Best Fascinator and even a Floral category!
Deena encourages you to create your own hat for the contest. You should go big and vibrant if you want to stand out from the crowd. However, be sure that when you shop for your dress, the hat matches and compliments your outfit.
Opening Day is Friday, July 15. The Opening Day Hat Contest begins at 11:30 AM and ends at 3:00 PM. There will be over $5,000 in prizes. Contest entry is free, but make sure to register.
