San Diego wins as the All-Star Game brings economic boost

The American League may have swept Tuesday's All-Star Game, but the real winner may be the City of San Diego.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The American League may have swept Tuesday's All-Star Game, but the real winner may be the City of San Diego.

San Diego State University marketing professor Miro Copic said since the festivities for the All-Star game began last Friday, San Diego is expected to take in anywhere from $80 to $100 million.

Last year, Cincinnati took in about $65 million when it hosted the All-Star Game, while in 2013, the City of New York generated almost $200 million.

According to Copic, San Diego's proximity to Los Angeles, Orange County and Riverside helped to generate even larger number of fans who were ready and willing to spend money on restaurants, bars, hotels and local attractions.

While annual events like Comic-Con are stronger economic drivers for the city, the success of the All-Star Game in America's Finest City could pay dividends down the road.
