Protesters in City Heights force SB I-15 shutdown

Protesters demonstrating against police tactics briefly made their way onto the Escondido 15 Freeway Friday night, prompting the California Highway Patrol to shut down lanes.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Protesters demonstrating against police tactics briefly made their way onto the Escondido 15 Freeway Friday night, prompting the California Highway Patrol to shut down lanes.

The group entered the southbound Escondido Freeway near University Avenue in City Heights about 8:40 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol Officer Mary Bailey.

All southbound lanes were shut down and the protesters were instructed to exit the freeway, which they did about 10 minutes later, Bailey said.

Lanes remained closed a short while after they left while officers made sure it was safe to get traffic flowing again.

Bailey didn't know how many protesters were involved, but said she didn't believe any were arrested.
