GOP Convention: KFMB radio is right in the middle of the action

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - It's day two of the Republican National Convention and Mike Slater from KFMB's AM-760 traveled to Cleveland to be in the middle of all the action.

Slater, who hosts the Mike Slater Show on AM-760, said it's a party-like atmosphere in Cleveland, but most of the excitement has not been shown by television networks.

Slater's producer, Miles Himmel, was able to send CBS News 8 cell phone video showing what it's like from their vantage point, and some of the attendees.

According to Slater, the so-called media row is the largest one that has ever been set up. "They have totally transformed this parking garage into a really nice space. The whole downstairs is all media from around the world," said Slater.

Another interesting fact is that UBER drivers have been brought into Cleveland from around the country to meet the crowd demand. Also, for the first time ever, bars in Ohio are open until 4 a.m.

Also, because Cleveland does not have enough places to stay, many state delegates are staying outside of the city. California, for example, is staying at a hotel an hour away, but a Norovirus broke out in their hotel.

Those delegates have been asked to stay in their rooms and not attend the convention.

Fortunately, Salter and his producer are staying in a different hotel, and are far from the Norovirus.

You can listen to the Mike Slater Show from 10 a.m., to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday.
