Road rage ends in gunfire in East County

A major development in an alleged road rage incident and shooting in Rancho. Deputies took a woman into custody Thursday morning who they're calling a person of interest in connection with the case.

RANCHO SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Shots were fired during a road rage dispute near Rancho San Diego early Thursday, but no one was injured.

The motorists got into an argument and the suspect opened fire on the victim's pickup truck in the vicinity of Jamacha Road and Hilton Head Place about 2:20 a.m., according to sheriff's Sgt. Matt Cook. Bullet casings were found in a nearby parking lot.

The two men inside were not hurt as they pulled into the parking lot of the Cottonwood Golf Club.

Police say the woman and three others were inside her car.

A detailed suspect description was not immediately available. Cook said deputies took conflicting reports from witnesses who described the second vehicle either as a white SUV or a black sedan.

Four people associated with a white SUV were questioned at the Park Pointe Apartments about two blocks away, but were released "pending further investigation,'' according to the sergeant.

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.

Anyone with additional information on the case was asked to call Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
