Chef helps sick teen cook up lifetime wish

A world-renowned sushi chef in Carlsbad made a wish come true Monday for a local teenager with cystic fibrosis who has aspirations to become a chef himself one day.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A world-renowned sushi chef in Carlsbad made a wish come true Monday for a local teenager with cystic fibrosis who has aspirations to become a chef himself one day.

Chef Rob Ruiz invited 15-year-old Ashton Ferguson and his sister Lola into his kitchen for a sweet surprise.

Ashton has been interested in cooking which is why leaning from the best was so exciting.

Since he was a baby, Ashton has been tube fed. Even now, he is still tube fed each night.

Ashton struggles to chew and swallow. He said being able to make his own food and choosing his favorite flavors and ingredients has made all the difference in diet.

Chef Ruiz, who is known worldwide as a leader in promoting responsibility sourced food said helping others is just part of his passion.

Back in June, he won the CF Foundation's Chef Throwdown Award and he learned about Ashton's wish to train with a a chef.
