Pilot killed as plane crashes into Los Angeles building

Posted: Updated:

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A small plane has crashed into a building near a Los Angeles airport, killing the pilot.

Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart tells KCAL-TV that the plane went down shortly before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on Hart Street.

The crash site is just east of Van Nuys Airport.

The single-engine sport-type airplane hit the edge of a building.

The pilot was the only person aboard. Stewart says nobody on the ground was hurt and there wasn't any fire.

The plane virtually disintegrated, with small pieces of wreckage at the bottom and side of the building and on a parked pickup truck, according to reports.
