Anti-Trump vandals' obscene hack on freeway sign

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A hacked freeway sign was spotted Thursday morning in Kensington clearly targeting Donald Trump and now all signs point to trouble for the local vandal who used government property to send the obscene message.

The sign was discovered on Adams Avenue near Interstate-15 and was seen by countless drivers or anyone else passing by. Caltrans has taken the incident seriously and have now turned over the investigation to the California Highway Patrol.

According to Caltrans officials, someone was able to break into a box next to the sign were a computer is located. They managed to hack their way into the system and type the inappropriate message which mentions Donald Trump and the KKK.

Caltrans spokesperson Cathryne Bruce-Johnson said it's not only illegal but also a safety hazard for motorist.

"It interferes with important messaging to motorists as well as distracts drivers which can cause a collision, damage, even fatality," said Bruce-Johnson.

CHP continues to investigate who is at fault, but extra protocols have been put in place.

It remains unclear how long the inappropriate message was up before the sign was fixed.
