SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A man is behind bars after leading police on a chase in the East County Sunday afternoon.
The pursuit began in La Mesa and ended about an hour later in El Cajon. California Highway Patrol says officers tried to stop the man for an expired registration in La Mesa when he took off.
The chase continued on several South Bay freeways through San Diego, Lemon Grove and Spring Valley before ending in El Cajon. Officers managed to take the man into custody without incident. There were no passengers inside the man's car and it's not clear why he didn't initially pull over.
A police K-9 was spotted going through the vehicle before it was towed away.
The suspect’s name and the charges against him have not been released.
