SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A suspected drunken driver led California Highway Patrol officers on a pursuit along freeways from Escondido to San Diego, authorities said Monday.
Officers attempted to pull over a white Toyota pickup truck on southbound Interstate 15 near Via Rancho Parkway shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday, but the driver continued south onto state Route 163, according to the CHP.
The driver headed west on Interstate 8 and north on I-5 before running over a spike strip officers laid down near state Route 52. CHP officials said the driver was taken into custody with the help of a police dog and transported to a hospital to be treated.
The driver's name was not immediately released.
