SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Sex Crimes detectives just cleared a man who they were questioning in connection with the sexual assault case in University City.
San Diego Police pulled a man out of a dark canyon Tuesday night in La Jolla who they now say was never a suspect in the sexual assault case in UTC.
Police say they're still searching for the accused rape suspect who's described as an African American man, 25-30 years old, 5’9” to 5’11” with an athletic build, last seen wearing gray shorts with a red stripe.
Detectives say the assault victim in her 20’s was followed by a man to her La Jolla condo near Regents Road Saturday night. She was robbed at gunpoint, knocked to the ground and raped.
The woman suffered facial fractures and other injuries that required hospitalization, according to police.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - San Diego Police on Tuesday night took into custody a person of interest in connection to the UTC sexual assault case.
According to San Diego Police, an UC San Diego police officer saw a man that matched the description of the suspect. The man matching the description ran into a canyon and was later arrested for resisting arrest.
The assault victim, who is in her 20s, had been dropped off by a friend and was walking through a parking structure near her residence at The Venetian on Nobel Drive near Regents Road when she noticed a man she did not know following her about 10:30 p.m.
As she was unlocking her apartment door, the suspect knocked her to the ground, pulled a pistol and told her to give him money. After the victim handed over some cash, the thief choked her and pushed her into her apartment, where he then battered and sexually assaulted her before fleeing, authorities said.
