Delving into dark past of accused child predator

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A registered sex offender arrested Tuesday on suspicion of following a 10-year-old girl into a women's restroom at an El Cajon department store and using a cellphone to capture images of her while she was in a toilet stall pleaded not guilty to felony charges Wednesday.

Robert Louis Becker, 21, is accused of using his cell phone to record a ten-year-old girl in a local Walmart restroom.

Detectives identified Becker as the suspected perpetrator through surveillance video and arrested him at his Alpine home on Monday, Lt. Dan Brislin said.

While some were somewhat surprised the victim in this case was only ten-years-old, those who knew Becker from high school said his alleged actions did not come as a shock.

Jessamyn Church attended high school with Becker. Church and others who know Becker from Alpine Academy, where they attended school together, said he had a long history of sexually targeting girls - both online and in person.

"He made me scared on the internet. [He] stalked me at work and just offered us money or alcohol or whatever we wanted to do for sexual favors. He asked us for crude photos or sent nude photos of himself," said Church.

Last summer, Becker was arrested in San Bernardino for posing as a teenage boy on the internet and luring an underage girl to have sex. When taken into custody then, authorities said he had more than 600 images of child porn in his possession.

In that case, Becker had to register as a sex offender and received probation.

Church hopes that if found guilty in the current case his punishment will be more severe.

Investigators believe Becker may have committed similar crimes in the East County, authorities said. Officials urged any potential victims to contact the San Diego County Sheriff's Department at (858) 974-2417.
